Osteopathy is a client-centered, hands-on therapy designed to investigate the primary cause of a patient complaint. Through a very thorough patient-history consultation, observation, and a multitude of manual assessment techniques, the therapist will determine what area(s) of the body is/are most problematic.
What is unique about osteopathy, is that it considers all components of the human body as possible causes of somatic dysfunction--- such as the bones, ligaments, muscles, nervous system, fascia, viscera, Cranio-sacral mechanism, and fluid for example.
A primary goal within osteopathic manual therapy is to relieve patterns of strain within the tissues that could be hindering the function of structures and systems within the body. Treatment will aim to improve mobility and circulation to help improve overall function of the body.
